6 Habits for Seniors to Stay Healthy

Staying healthy is important to maintain independence and quality of life as we age. It is never too late to start living a healthier lifestyle. Listed below are some healthy habits that might help you in healthy aging.

Stay physically active

Regular exercise is good for your physical and mental health. Exercise has many benefits including keeping the heart healthy, strengthening muscles, improving balance, boosting the immune system, and improving quality of sleep. Additionally, exercise promotes brain health and prevents depression and Alzheimer’s. Remember to consult with your doctor before you take any physical activity to see what type of exercise is suitable for you.

Eat healthy

Following a well-balanced diet that suits your body is one of the best things, you can do as you grow older. A healthy diet may include plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lowering the consumption of sodium and sugar, and avoiding heavily processed foods. Also, drinking enough water is important to stay energized and to prevent dehydration.

Exercise your brain

Stay connected with family, friends, and your community.  Social relationships improve mood, help reduce stress,  and lower the risk of anxiety or depression.
